Um forte terremoto de 6,7 e raso de magnitude abalou a remota região das ilhas Shetland do Sul, na Antártida no domingo, peritos do Serviço Geológico dos EUA disse. A magnitude 6.1 earthquake centred in the seas south of Stewart Island has been felt through the lower South Island of New Zealand, GNS Science says.
The quake struck at 7.48pm, 180km southwest of Southland town Tuatapere, which is only 8km from the southern coastline.
It had a focal depth of 12km.
Its centre was near the sub-Antarctic Snares Island.
